2 parts in one volume, folio (351 x 223 mm). Title printed in red and black, numerous woodcut illustrations in text, and 4 full page woodcuts on 3 plates. 19th-century half calf, joints starting, some light browning.

Third English edition. Pare became one of the greatest surgeons of his century, known for re-introducing the simple ligature for the treatment of gunshot wounds, rather than the practice of cautery with boiling oil. He invented a number of surgical and dental instruments, as well as prosthetics, many of which are illustrated in this work.
