"Three Cases of Extirpation of Diseased Ovaria. IN: The Eclectic Repertory and Analytical Review, Medical and Philosophical, Vol. VII, pp 242-244. Philadelphia: Thomas Dobson & Son, 1817.
8vo (203 x 128 mm). Modern quarter brown morocco and cloth. Title page re-margined, ownership inscription on title (John Ridgely), browning and spotting throughout.
FIRST EDITION. McDowell was a pioneering surgeon, the first to successfully remove an ovarian tumor in 1809, as chronicled in this report. He went on to perform 13 such operations in his career; despite the prevailing opinion that such an operation would be fatal, 8 of his patients recovered. Garrison-Morton-Norman 6023.
