1. LARREY, DOMINIQUE JEAN. Memoirs of Military Surgery, and Campaigns of the French Armies. Baltimore: Joseph Cushing, 1814.
2 volumes, 8vo (204 x 122 mm). 10 (of 11) engraved plates, errata slip in volume II. Modern half tan morocco and linen-covered boards. Lacking plate II, browning, marginal dampstaining.
FIRST AMERICAN EDITION of this important work by the "greatest military surgeon in history" (Garrison-Morton-Norman 2160, for the original French edition). Austin 1123.
2. MANN, JAMES. 1759-1832. Medical Sketches of the Campaigns of 1812, 13, 14. Dedham, MA: H. Mann & Co., 1816.
8vo (235 x 145 mm). Contemporary marbled boards, printed paper spine, edges untrimmed, modern clamshell box. Rubbed, spine heavily chipped, heavy foxing, ownership signature on title, a few marginal losses.
FIRST EDITION. The author was a military surgeon in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. This, his most important work, was "the primary record of medicine during the War of 1812" (Garrison-Morton-Norman 2161.1). Austin 1190; Howes M258; Sabin 44328.
