JUNG, CARL GUSTAV. 1875-1961.

Wandlungen und Symbole der Libido. Leipzig and Vienna: Franz Deuticke, 1925.
8vo. Illustrations in text. Contemporary three-quarter pebbled cloth and marbled paper boards. Slightly rubbed at extremities, toned, inscription trimmed.
Provenance: Cary Baynes, born Cary Fink (1883-1977) was an American Jungian psychologist (inscribed to her as "Cary De Angulo" by Jung).

PRESENTATION COPY inscribed and signed by Jung on title. Second edition. Jung's work on the nature of the libido caused a rift between him and Sigmund Freud. While Freud put great emphasis on the role of the libido in personality development, Jung de-emphasized it and put greater importance on his concept of the collective unconscious. Cary Baynes (née Fink), to whom this book is dedicated, was an American psychologist who studied under Jung, and translated a number of Jung's works into English. Her papers are held by the Wellcome Library. Heirs of Hippocrates 2302 (first edition).
