Provenance: Robert Shafto of Benwell (bookplates on front paste-downs); William Adair (bookplates on rear paste-downs).

A collection of papers by Hale previously presented to the Royal Society. It includes the first complete published account of the nutrition of plants, and the introduction of a device to measure blood pressure. Third edition of volume I, second edition of volume II.
