8vo. 16 lithographed plates, one double-page. Publisher's burgundy cloth stamped in blind and gilt, some edges uncut, supplied paper dust jacket. Covers rubbed, with some staining, fingermarks (appropriately) and some browning, library blind stamp to title page.

Francis Galton made important contributions to statistics
and pioneered the use of fingerprints. He both cooperated and clashed with Darwin on heredity, and coined the term "eugenics" in 1883, advocating for the selective breeding of better people through "judicious mating."
