4to (230 x 170 mm). Woodcut printer's device on title page, dedication page with 2 medallion portraits in woodcut border, woodcut initials and illustrations in text. Contemporary vellum, inked titles on spine and bottom edge. Covers soiled and rubbed, hinges repaired, old ownership inscription on front free endpaper, scattered fingermarks and slight foxing.

First collected edition of the writings of Girolamo Fracastoro. A native of Verona, Fracastoro was a multi-talented scholar: doctor, poet, astronomer, geologist, pharmacologist and biologist — literally a Renaissance man. Adams F 817; Durling 1631; STC 275; Waller 3168; Wellcome I, 2396.
