8vo. 14 wood-engraved plates; 5 folding maps and charts, 1 on multiple sheets. Contemporary sheep, gilt titles on cover and spine, all edges gilt. Covers detached, edges and corners heavily rubbed, toning and scattered spotting.

First British edition of the account of the rescue of the surviving members of the Greely expedition at Cape Sabine. Schey, in command of a commissioned Canadian bark, succeeded where other expeditions of failed, and saved Greely and 6 (of an original 24) members of his crew. Soley, an experienced naval historian, probably wrote the bulk of the narrative contained in the book.
