8 volumes, 4to (252 x 170 mm). 479 chromolithographic plates. Publisher's maroon cloth, stamped in gilt on upper covers with fern motif. Sunned, slightly rubbed, minor soiling.

Second edition, the first published in serialized form in London between 1856 and 1860. Nissen BBI 1243 (for first edition).
