MAN RAY'S SURREALIST PHOTOS.

MAN RAY (EMMANUEL RADNITZKY). 1890-1976; and PAUL ÉLUARD. 1895-1952. Facile. Paris: Éditions G.L.M., 1935.
Small 4to. 12 photographic images by Man Ray, text by Paul Éluard. Loose folded sheets, as issued, in publisher's pictorial wrappers, custom grey cloth clamshell box with leather lettering piece on top cover. Light wear and slight creasing to front wrapper, light toning.

LIMITED EDITION, number 420 of 1,200 copies on thick velin paper. Éluard's wife, known as Nusch, was the inspiration for the poems, and also the model for Man Ray's Surrealist composite photographs. "Although Man Ray participated in and produced hundreds of fruitful collaborative works in his life, Facile must be ranked among the most successful" (Roth 101 Books 86). Parr & Badger, The Photobook: a History, I, pp 104-105: "Elegant eroticism, especially when printed in photogravures, so luscious that one just wants to touch it."
