ON WINNING THE PULITZER PRIZE.

MITCHELL, MARGARET. 1900-1949. Typed Letter Signed ("Margaret") to Mabel and Edwin [Granberry] upon being awarded the 1937 Pulitzer Prize, 1 p, 278 x 182 mm, on "MARGARET MITCHELL" stationery, Atlanta, Georgia, May 4, 1937, folds, light toning.

"As soon as I got the news last night I thought of you two and Herschel [Brickell] at the table last summer when you predicted it and I laughed so hard my glasses fell into the gravy."

On the day after winning the Pulitzer Prize for Literature for 1937, Mitchell writes a charming response to friends Mabel and Edwin Granville to thank them for their congratulations. Granville and Herschel Brickell (of the New York Post) were both literary critics who became early champions for the book upon its release, opening a door for the book's wider success.
