CHAUCER, GEOFFREY. 1340?-1400.

The Works of our Ancient, Learned, & Excellent English Poet, Jeffrey Chaucer. London: ["J.H."], 1687.
Folio (320 x 200 mm). 7-line cancel slip on p 42. Blind-stamped paneled calf, somewhat crudely re-backed, edges gilt. Covers chipped, lacking frontispiece, with later tipped-in color lithographic portrait of Chaucer in place of the frontispiece, old dealer's descriptions applied to front paste-down, browning and spotting, a few small marginal tears.

THE LAST BLACK-LETTER EDITION OF CHAUCER, and the eighth edition of his works overall. This edition, edited by Thomas Speght, includes the recently discovered conclusions of the Cook's and the Squire's Tales on the final page, but is otherwise a reprint of the 1602 edition. Pforzheimer 179; Wing C3736.
