VALVERDE DE HAMUSCO, JUAN. 1520-1588.

Vivae imagines partium corporis humani aereis formis expressae. [Antwerp: C. Plantin, 1572?]
4to (244 x 161 mm). 42 full-page engraved plates (only lacking title and text leaves). Early 19th century speckled calf. Rubbed, margins trimmed, stamped VESALII TABULAE ANATOMICAE on front free endpaper.

A group of plates from an unidentified edition of Valverde de Hamusco's Vivae imagines partium corporis humani, probably the third Latin edition of 1572. The first Latin edition was printed in 1566, to the disgruntlement of Vesalius himself who accused Valverde of never having conducted a dissection. The text was originally bound after the plates. This set of 42 plates represents a complete set for this edition. Cushing Vesalius, p 151; Voet 2415; Wellcome 6481.
