KERCKRING, THEODOR. 1638-1693. Spicilegium anatomicum. Amsterdam: Andreas Fris, 1670.
2 parts in 1 volume. 4to (235 x 185 mm). Engraved frontispiece, engraved vignette on title page, 38 (of 39) engraved illustrations, including 8 folding and 13 full-page. Contemporary vellum, with inked titles at head of spine. Covers rubbed and soiled, biding slightly loose, extensive margin repairs to title page, lacking folding plate XXXVII, some stains, including dark stain to leaf A2, affecting plate 1.
Provenance: Howard Kelly, MD (1858-1943, bookplate).

FIRST EDITION, THE HOWARD KELLY COPY. This compendium of anatomical observations includes some of Kerckring's most important contributions to the field, including a description of what came to be known as "Kerckring's folds" in the small intestine, and "Kerckring's ossicles" in the occipital bone of developing fetuses.
