HERMAPHRODITE BROADSIDE.

[GAUTIER D'AGOTY, JACQUES FABIEN. 1716-1785.] Hermaphrodite. A dissertation upon the famous Hermaphrodite, which has been shewn to the publick about three months at Paris, and now in London. London: Printed for A. Steward, 1750.
Folio broadsheet (350 x 600 mm), printed on recto only, with large engraved illustration after d'Agoty, and letterpress text in 4 columns. Folded, in modern custom clamshell box. Fold creases torn in places and repaired on verso, light soiling and browning.

For the price of one shilling, curious Londoners could gaze upon this engraved rendition of Gautier d'Agoty's illustration of a fifteen-year-old French girl identified as a hermaphrodite. Originally published in Paris, with 2 colored plates, this monochromatic English translation seems likely to have been published more for prurient interest than any scientific value of the "dissertation" in the text below. Russell British Anatomy 313.
