Folio (650 x 453 mm). Engraved vignette on title page, 40 engraved plates after Jan Wandelaar, including 12 in outline. Modern half calf and marbled boards. Soiling to page edges, a few small tears, large tears to a few leaves including one plate, repaired on verso, ink library stamps.
Provenance: Wellcome Library (withdrawal stamp on verso of title).

FIRST BRITISH EDITION, following the original Leiden edition of 1747. The principal work of Albinus, with Wandelaar's impressive illustrations, including 12 skeletal and muscle plates duplicated in outline. "They established a new standard in anatomical illustration, and remain unsurpassed for their artistic beauty and scientific accuracy" (Garrison-Morton-Norman).
