VIRGIL'S GEORGICS ILLUSTRATED BY DE SEGONZAC.

VIRGIL (PUBLIUS VIRGILIUS MARO). 70-19 BCE. Les Géorgiques. Traduit par Michel de Marolles. Paris: Imprimerie Nationale, 1944-1947.
3 volumes. Folio. 119 etchings by André Dunoyer de Segonzac, with an additional suite of 119 plates hors texte. Loose, as issued, in publisher's wrappers, half cloth chemises and slipcases. Rubbing and bumping to slipcases, some mostly marginal foxing to first 2 volumes.

LIMITED EDITION, number 4 of 50 on Vélin d'Arches. "After Vollard had seen the illustrations for La treille muscate, he wished Segonzac to do another series for Colette, but the artist persuaded him to plan a Virgil.... His landscape has a classical, pastoral quality whose freshness is due to the immediacy of execution" (Garvey 281). Monod 11340.
