8vo (175 x 115 mm). Title page with decorative woodcut border, 211 woodcut emblems, decorative woodcut borders to emblem and text pages. Contemporary (?) paper-covered boards. Rubbed, chipping to corners and edges, hinges cracking, upper margins trimmed into some headers, minor browning and staining, bookplate and dealer's label on front paste-down.

Lyon edition of the Emblemata, the primary work of Alciati, first published in 1531 in Augsburg. Numerous editions in various languages and formats were to follow. Baudrier IX, 307.
