1. MARQUIS, FRANCES K. Typed Letter Signed ("Francis K. Marquis"), in French, to Henri Giraud ("Mon Général") thanking him for reviewing her troops, 1 p, 8vo, on 149th WAAC POST HEADQUARTERS COMPANY letterhead, A.P.O. 512, May 27, 1943.
FROM THE FIRST FEMALE COMMANDING OFFICER OF A WOMAN'S EXPEDITIONARY FORCE IN THE U.S. ARMY. Captain Frances Keegan headed the 149th WAAC (Women's Army Auxiliary Company) in North Africa under General Dwight Eisenhower, and was the first female commander in the U.S. Army.
2. MARSHALL, GEORGE C. Typed Letter Signed ("G.C. Marshall") anticipating new divisions joining French troops, CHIEF OF STAFF letterhead, Washington, October 8, 1943, with holograph French translation attached.
3. TRUSCOTT, LUCIEN K. Typed Letter Signed ("L.K. Truscott Jr") thanking Giraud for the award to the Legion of Honor, HEADQUARTERS, THIRD DIVISION letterhead, APO-3, July 31, 1943, old folds.

A fine collection of letters from Allied commanders to General Henri Giraud, the commander of French troops in North Africa, mostly surrounding the important victory of May 1943, including the RARE AUTOGRAPH OF CAPTAIN FRANCES K. MARQUIS, the first woman commander of the U.S. Army.
