EISENHOWER, DWIGHT D. 1890-1969.

Typed Letter Signed ("Dwight D. Eisenhower") to General Henri Giraud on French appointments in North Africa following Allied victory, [with 2 TLS signed secretarily]... 1 p, Allied Force Headquarters/ Office of the Commander in Chief stationery, May 10, 1943, with carbon of French translation, annotated "G" in crayon to upper corner, holes to upper corner from old fastener.
[WITH:] two Typed Letters Signed secretarially ("Dwight D. Eisenhower") to Giraud, 1 p each, on Allied Force Headquarters stationery, April 27, 1943, and May 5, 1943, both on American-French cooperation in the final days of the North African campaign.

EISENHOWER WRITES TO GIRAUD REGARDING THE COMMAND OF THE FRENCH ARMIES WITH THE ALLIED VICTORY IN NORTH AFRICA. From the initial Allied involvement in North Africa, managing the command of the French troops had taken incredible political acumen from Eisenhower. When they began Operation Torch in early November, there was great uncertainty as to who would lead the French troops. This letter supports De Gaulle's appointment of General Charles Mast command in Tunisia, and that of General Alphonse Juin as his temporarily replacement while Mast healed from a recent injury.

The other two letters, while signed secretarially, offer real time context from the battlefields of Tunisia, as the Allied armies began to have major successes in the North Africa campaign.
