1. SHERMAN, WILLIAM TECUMSEH. 1820-1891. Check Accomplished and Signed ("W.T. Sherman"), paid to the order of R.O. Holtzman in the amount of $100, drawn on the Riggs & Co. bank, 71 x 190 mm, Washington, DC, December 2, 1881, engraved vignette at left margin, cancellation at upper left center not affecting signature, toning and thumbing overall.

Sherman signs this check as he nears the end of his military career.

2. SCOTT, WINFIELD. 1786-1866. Check Accomplished and Signed ("Winfield Scott"), paid to the order of Pew in the amount of $10, drawn on Corcoran and Riggs, 54 x 154 mm, Washington, July 3, 1852, cancellation at center not affecting signature (and reinforced with tape on verso), light thumbing and toning overall.
