A native New Yorker, Arthur Sarnoff studied at the Grand Central Art School where his instructors included John Ford Clymer and Andrew Wyeth. By the 1930s, he was working regularly as an illustrator for publications including McCall's, American Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, and Good Housekeeping, and for advertisements for Karo Syrup, Listerine, Lucky Strike, and Coors, among others. He also regularly illustrated for pulp fiction. This work was an illustration for Pocket Book 827, The Hepburn, by Jan Westcott, published in 1951.
