Provenance: Henry Goulburn (1784-1856), bookplate. Entering the Houses of Parliament in 1808, by 1810 he was an under-secretary at the Home Office, and in 1812 under-secretary for war and colonies, where he was "principally responsible for colonial administration.. [playing a] key role as a negotiator at Ghent in July 1814 charged with negotiating the final arrangement of frontiers, fisheries, and maritime rights at the cessation of the Anglo-American War of 1812–14" (ODNB); by descent to the present owner.
