Provenance: Coventry and Bertha Patmore, inscription to Frederick Greenwood (1830–1909), journalist and man of letters (he completed Elizabeth Gaskell's novel Wives and Daughters after her death in 1865); Helena Watkin, friend of the Patmores; and thence by descent to the present owner.
