ISHERWOOD (CHRISTOPHER)

Sally Bowles, FIRST EDITION, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on the title-page (crossing through his name), publisher's light blue cloth, DUST-JACKET (soiled, split at upper joint, small loss to foot of spine), 8vo, Hogarth Press, 1937

Footnotes

SIGNED COPY WITH RARE DUST-JACKET of the book which was inspired by Isherwood's experiences in the Weimar Republic and his intimate friendship with the nineteen-year-old cabaret singer Jean Ross. In 1939 Isherwood incorporated the novella into the longer novel Goodbye to Berlin, the inspiration for the film Cabaret with Liza Minnelli memorably playing the role of Sally Bowles. This copy comes from a house associated with the Strachey family.
