Footnotes

None of these turquoise and black 'Dome of the Rock' type tiles survive in situ, however Arthur Millner argues that Aleppo appears to be their likely origin (A. Millner, Damascus Tiles, London, 2015, p. 299, Fig 6.127). For two similar tiles sold at Christie's, see Art & Textiles of the Islamic & Indian Worlds Including Works from the Collection of the Late Simon Digby, 7 October 2011, lot 190.
