A Safavid brass torch stand
Persia, early 17th Century

the cylindrical shaft on a flaring foot, with everted rim, divided into three sections by raised ribs, profusely engraved and decorated, the middle section with a central zig-zag band containing later owner's mark and teardrop cartouche, above and below a repeated design of floral motifs amongst split-palmettes, the upper section with bands of split palmettes and floral motifs, the foot with a band of eight roundels containing floral motifs
