Provenance
Bonhams, Islamic and Indian Art, 17 October 2002, lot 365.
Private UK collection.

Sultan Mohamed Reshad Khan, or Mehmet V, reigned between 1909 and 1918. This watch is exactly the sort of opulent object which would have found favour with the later Ottoman sultans. A number of gold items with similar enamelling are preserved in the Topkapi Palace Museum, Istanbul including a covered vase and tray-stand, and a writing set (see J.M. Rogers (ed.), The Topkapi Saray Museum, Boston 1987, nos. 99 and 113.
