Footnotes

Provenance:
with O. Tiano, Paris.
Private collection, London, acquired from the above in 1993.

Cf. C. Andrews, Amulets of Ancient Egypt, British Museum, London, 1994, pp.39-40, fig.37; Andrews comments that Bes amulets were particularly worn in life by women and children, probably because he was thought to aid women during childbirth, alongside Taweret. Bes amulets also served a protective purpose in the tomb.
