Tall-necked jugs are among the earliest luxury Roman glass tableware, imitating pottery jugs. The elegant handles, this example with four ribs, were made with great care and precision. For a close parallel in pale green glass, see E. Marianne Stern, Roman, Byzantine, and Early Medieval Glass from the Ernesto Wolf Collection, Ostfildern, 2001, p. 92, no. 30; another in blue-green was sold as part of the Benzian collection by Sotheby's, 7 July 1994, lot 153.
