Large Euclase
Minas Gerais, Brazil
Euclase is not well known as a gemstone—primarily due to its scarcity—but it is much beloved and sought after as a mineral specimen. Very rarely do its well-formed crystals have enough clarity to be cut as gems. The name Euclase is derived from the Latin meaning "easy cleavage"—which is a problem for gem cutters who need to be careful of splitting an unfinished gem. The present cushion-cut gem with its pleasing lemon-yellow color is very large for the species; it has superb luster and clarity. This is a rare gemstone suitable for the serious collector. Weighing approximately 31.06 carats and measuring 20.33 x 18.08 x 12.90mm
