German-cut Quartz Replica Collection of the 102 Most Famous Diamonds
By W. Constantin Wild & Co.
Idar-Oberstein, Germany
Produced in 1991 as a unique collection, this beautiful and educational set comprises three presentation boxes. It was especially made for diamond promotion purposes and for gemological education. Replica cuts of famous diamonds are usually a highlight in museums and private gemstone collections. But they were most often made of paste (glass or synthetic stones). The present sets are valuable since they are cut from natural rock crystal quartz, citrine, amethyst and smoky quartz. The "diamonds", therefore, have the color and luster of a natural gem. The fact that natural stones were used, combined with the precision of Idar-Oberstein cutting, this collection represents the best available replicas of all great diamonds.
As with most older sets this one includes famous diamonds such as the Koh-I-Noor, the Regent, the blue Hope, the Green Dresden and the 8 Cullinans. In addition, it contains copies of diamonds more recently found or cut--great diamonds such as the "Taylor-Burton" diamond or the "Golden Giant". Constantin Wild collected information on famous diamonds over the last 40 years in order to fabricate these replicas. This is a rare opportunity for the gemstone collector to obtain all the famous diamonds in their millimeter size, cutting style and variety of colors. Comprising: Set 1, Diamonds from Africa; Set 2, Diamonds from India; Set 3, Diamonds from America and Russia. (102 in three boxed sets).
