Bonhams Skinner's Timed Online Asian Works of Art sale ending December 7th features items from several freshly revealed collections. The majority of lots in the sale are directly from the collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields and have been hidden away in museum storage, unseen for many years, having entered the collection from as early as 1916 in some cases. The collection includes several paintings of exceptional quality, as well as early Buddhist sculptures ranging in origin from India to Cambodia and Thailand, in addition to ceramics and jades, all deaccessioned from the museum to benefit the future acquisitions and better meet the museum's mission.
Other notable lots come from curated private collections. A small but diverse collection of mostly metal Buddhist sculptures originating from India to Sino-Tibet was acquired over a period of more than twenty years from dealers and auction houses across the globe. Additionally, we are offering an important Indian mother-of-pearl inlaid wood casket likely dating from the later part of the 16th century from the renowned Hesperides Collection of rugs and antiques formed by Jim Dixon in California.
