Irby, Charles Leonard (1789-1845) and James Mangles (1786-1867)

Travels in Egypt and Nubia, Syria, and Asia Minor During the Years 1817 & 1818, Small 8vo, brown embossed calf, rebacked, gilt-ruled, title and author gilt to red and black labels on spine, engraved plates and fold-out maps. An autograph note from Irby inscribing this copy to a Mr. Dempsey, dated Dec. 13, 1823, is tipped directly after the title page (slight rubbing, staining, and edge wear, occasional foxing to pages). Title page describes authors as "Commanders in the Royal Navy." 9 x 5 ½ in., London: Printed by T. White and Co. for Private Distribution, 1823
