Grain-painted Six-board Chest,
probably Vermont, c. 1830.
Lid with applied molded cleated opens on square steel hinges above well with lidded till, case is rabbeted and nailed, on arched ends with conforming bracket feet across front, grain-painted in brown on yellow ground, with square panels delineated by faux-stringing and crossbanding, simulating mahogany inlay on the sides, includes wrought iron lock and key, (paint loss, cleats and hinges repaired), 96cm wide, 43cm deep, 55cm high (38in wide, 17in deep, 22 1/4in high).
