A pair of George III silver vegetable dishes and covers with liners

Shaped-circular, the two-handled bases with gadroon rims and handles with leaf junctions, shaped liner and domed covers, the inside base and cover with armorial engraving and the liner with engraved script initials RH including the escutcheon of a baronet for Sir Robert HODSON (1747-1809), underside of bases with engraved scratch weight '72"1' and '73"11', length handle to handle 35.5cm, weight 142oz.

These are the arms of Sir Robert HODSON (1747-1809) 1st Baronet of Hollybrook co. Wicklow and Greenpark (Tuitestown) co. Westmeath, created 1789 in the Baronetage of Ireland, and his second wife Jane NEVILLE (died 1852) elder daughter of Brent NEVILLE of Ashbrook co. Dublin. They married in 1799 after the death of his first wife Anne ADAIR (1757-1790) daughter and heir of his maternal uncle Forster ADAIR of Hollybrook by Anne RIBTON daughter of Sir George RIBTON 1st Baronet.

Sir Robert HODSON was the only son and heir of William HODSON (1727-1768) of Tuitestown co. Westmeath by Eleanor ADAIR daughter of Robert ADAIR of Hollybrook. He was succeeded as 2nd Baronet by his son from his second marriage: Sir Robert Adair HODSON (1802-1831).
This HODSON family are descended from the HODSON family of Houghton House, Staffordshire.
