Shaped-rectangular form with gadroon rims, the covers with engraved arms and crest of William Hart COLERIDGE (1789-1849), the bayonet fastening covers with oak leaf and acorn calyx, length 29.5cm, weight 117oz.

Property of a lady

These are the arms of William Hart COLERIDGE (1789-1849), who from 1824-1842 the 1st Bishop of Barbados and Leaward Islands with British Guiana. He was born the only son of Luke Herman COLERIDGE of Thorverton, Devon by Sarah HART daughter of Richard HART of Exeter. His father was a brother of poet and theologian Samuel Taylor COLERIDGE (1772-1834) and their father was Revd. John COLERIDGE (1718-1781) vicar of St May's Church Ottery St Mary and headmaster of the King's School in the town.
He married, in 1825, the eldest daughter of Dr. Thomas Rennell, dean of Winchester and master of the Temple.
