A pair of George III silver open sauce tureens

Walter Brind, London 1768
Oval bellied form with gadroon rims, scroll handles either side, on a shaped oval pedestal foot with gadroon border, engraved with the arms of a branch of the KEIR family, length handle to handle 19.6cm, weight 22oz. (2)

Footnotes

These arms are of a branch of the KEIR family who are identified as being of Calcutta and as descendants of the WHITMORE family of co. Berwick.
The KEIR family are historically a family of the Carse, Stirlingshire, Scotland and it is their arms that appear here with added differences that receive an exemplification grant in 1768 by the Court of Lord Lyon. Notably the assay date is also 1768. It is expected that the family had connections to the East India Company but no information has been discovered.
