A Burmese silver offering bowl with scenes from the Jataka Tales

Lower Burma (Myanmar) circa 1900, mark of peacock in full display
A compressed spherical bowl, to the top a polished band with a decorative frieze beneath embossed with a repeating foliate motif, the main body featuring an epic mythological Burmese tale, repoussé work in high and low relief with traditionally dressed villagers, deities, exotic trees, flora and fauna all set against a matt ground, a wide acanthus leaf band below, to the underside an embossed peacock facing right, its feathers in full display, diameter 24cm, weight 40oz.
