A Burmese silver ceremonial offering bowl with elephant stand

maker's mark 'peacock in display' with Burmese text, Lower Burma (Myanmar) circa 1900
Deep spherical form, the top chased with scrolling bands and a plain polished upper rim, the main body featuring embossed high and low relief mythological scenes from tales of the Ramayana, Burmese figures in animated poses in nine circular vignettes around the whole, interspersed by intricate pierced scrolling floral and foliate motifs, embossed birds swooping between, the lower border decorated with a continuous row of overlapping betel leaves, together with a carved dark wood stand consisting of three elephants on a tripartite platform, the bowl resting on the backs of the elephants, height bowl 16cm, diameter circa 22cm, weight 38oz.
