A presentation silver and guilloché enamelled snuff box

Bolin, St. Petersburg, 1906
circular, the cover with blue enamel centre, with an image of Ivan Alexandrovich Vsevolozhsky and engraved name, the reverse with the muse Thalia gracing the Hermitage with laurel wreath, engraved with date 1956-1906 and dedication "to I.A. Vsevolozhsky from employees of the Imperial Hermitage 1856-1906",88 standard
diameter: 7cm (2 3/4in).

Ivan Alexandrovich Vsevolozhsky (1835-1909) was an outstanding Russian theater and museum director, screenwriter, artist; adviser, chief chamberlain. 1881–1899 he was a Director of the Imperial theatres. In 1899–1909 Director of the Imperial Hermitage.


The snuffbox was presented him by employees in memory of the 50th anniversary of his public service.
