the cartouche reading NEWTON'S New & Improved TERRESTRIAL GLOBE, Embracing every recent Discovery to the Present Time, Manufactured by Newton, Son and Berry, 66 Chancery Lane, the sphere applied with 12 hand-coloured gores, mounted in brass meridian with engraved circle of degrees, within restored horizon ring applied with printed calendar and zodiac signs, supported by tripod base with stretcher, 1-inch loss west of Mexico,

The Newton family were one of the leading family firms in the field of globemaking in the 19th century. In the 1830s, Newton & Son (John & William) entered into a partnership with Miles Berry, and were based at 66 Chancery Lane, London.
