A good marquetry inlaid wood architectural jewellery box by David Linley

formed as a Palladian villa in sycamore, pear and various specimen woods, the breakfront facade with inlaid shaded faux sash windows and central door, the pedimented hinged cover with inset bevel-edged mirror opening to a compartmented tray above a pair of spring action drawers, the pediment front supported by two pairs of columns, flanking a central porch similarly supported by two pairs of corresponding columns, the whole sliding forward to reveal a lift out tray and inner well, the flanking bays with two pairs of corner drawers to each side, 41cm high, 44cm wide, 30cm deep overall

The design of this jewellery box is influenced by the architecture of Spencer House (the London family home of the late Princess Diana) and Bridgewater House in Piccadilly and is corroborated by the David Linley workshop in a private insurance valuation letter for the vendor dated 1997.

Presented by the broadcaster Eamonn Holmes on GMTV to the vendor as the first prize for a phone-in competition, circa 1993.
