A George III mahogany, ebony and fruitwood cylinder writing desk of Gillows quality

Circa 1790, the chequered tambour sliding cylinder top enclosing seven pigeon holes, seven harewood veneered and tulipwood crossbanded drawers and a leather inset slide, above one long oak lined frieze drawer, on square tapering legs headed by oval tablets, terminating in brass cappings and castors, another timber possibly used herein includes sabicu or fustic, 89cm wide x 64cm deep x 105cm high, (35in wide x 25in deep x 41in high)

Provenance
The offered lot belonged to Lady Elizabeth von Hofmannsthal (nee Paget), second daughter of Charles Paget, 6th Marquess of Anglesey, and Lady Manners, sister of Lady Caroline Paget-Plas Newydd, at Llanddaniel Fab, Anglesey.
It was subsequently offered as part of a single owner collection, Bonhams, Knightsbridge, 7 July 2021, lot 23.

A Gillows drawing for a closely comparable satinwood cylinder desk appears illustrated in L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs, 1760-1800, 1995, Bloomfield Press, colour pl. 6.
