Footnotes

This seemingly experimental work by Enwonwu depicts a small child, thought to be a boy against a backdrop of thinned oil paint to allow the watercolour like effect, the child is personified with defined brushwork over this wash. Further, more precise brushwork can be detected below the boy's profile, signifying the start of an outline of another figure. Indeed, Enwonwu's treatment of the oil paint can be concluded as experimental due to it being an unusual aesthetic, seemingly quick and free in comparison to his wider oeuvre. Preferring to work from life, it could be concluded that the swiftness of the present work was reflecting the energy and movement of the child.
