British Pattern 1756 Long Land Service Musket, Altered
Third quarter of the 18th century

34 1/4 in. round barrel with ordnance proof marks and barrel maker's mark stamped on the breech; converted lock plate marked "WILLETS/1761" on the tail, crown over "GR" and crowned broad arrow below the pan area, the inside marked crown over "2," crown over "LW," and "3," replaced flat faced cock; walnut stock with carved plateau around the breech plug tang, storekeeper's mark on the right side of the butt, inspector's marks behind the trigger guard, Roman number "IIII" assembly number in the rammer channel; brass furniture proper for pattern except for upper rammer pipe, the thumb piece engraved "D/2" and the inside of the side plate with cast broad arrow and two set of assembly numbers "XXXXVIII" and "IIII"; with an American-made wood rammer.
