Literature
Rudolph de Cordova, 'The panels in Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema's Hall', The Strand Magazine, Vol. XXIV, 1902, pp. 615-630, ill. p.625.

In the present work, Emily Williams has chosen to depict Alma-Tadema's studio seen up a flight of steps that lead into the brightly lit space. The studio, which was double-height and adorned with a shining aluminium-clad semi dome, was filled with numerous artefacts. Emily's depiction gives us a glimpse of the working practices of the Alma-Tadema; his watercolour An Old Story can be seen on the easel. Other objects are visible; the Japanese basket stool, and a replica of the Hercules bowl by the window.
