The present work was once in the collection of Joseph Wharton Lippincott, noted publisher, author, naturalist, and sportsman. He was the grandson of Joshua Ballinger Lippincott (1813-1886), founder of Philadelphia's J.B. Lippincott Company, and the grandson of industrialist Joseph Wharton (1826-1909), founder of the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.
