Large 8vo (225 x 170 mm). Illustrated in black and white throughout by John R. Neill. Original light green cloth decorated in red, green, tan and black, pages printed on variously tinted stock, dust jacket. Endpapers mildly toned, corners of rear free endpaper bumped, head and tail of spine nudged. Jacket with restoration at spine and edges, thumbsoiling overall.
FIRST EDITION, first state with gatherings printed on white, lavender, gray, light blue, salmon, tan, light green and tan, with the number and caption beneath illustration on p 129, and 2 ad pp at rear listing Laura Bancroft titles (p 263) and four other Baum titles on p 264. Jacket in first state with metallic gold background, advert on back panel and blank flaps. Hanff/Green V:1.
