LITERATURE
Nili Goren, Adi Nes: Photographs, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tel Aviv, 2004, p. 38, pl. 14 (illus.)

'Adi Nes' provocative photomedia work subverts viewer expectations
and, without background information, defies expectations.
The controversial wall built to protect Israeli citizens from what had
become incessant acts of violence against innocent civilians – seen, of
course, by Palestinians as a concrete barrier to their perceived rights
as the country's sole indigenous group – is in this particular image
de-politicised.
The protagonists, presented in a deliberately ambiguous industrialised
setting, comprises a mixed group of Jewish and Arab male
models, showcasing street fashion in and for a Vogue magazine
shoot. Photographed before the wall, either as a symbol or simply a
backdrop, the models from both sides of the divide look ethnically
interchangeable – as in real life they truly are. Go figure.
